On Friday December 2, a modern version of “Swan Lake” opened at Dansens Hus in Stockholm. The performance is created by the Swedish famous dancer and choreographer Fredrik “Benke” Rydman. The classical ballet has turned into a modern dance performance where the swans are drug using prostitutes and the evil Rothbart is their pimp. The show mixes street dance, locking with classical ballet. The music is also a mix of the classical music with new modern music specially composed for this performance. The sceneries shifts from dark city streets, the glowing Red Light district, to the interior of a 18th century manor. The scenography was created by Lehna Edwall and Fredrik Rydman, built by Visual act and painted by the graffitti artist Daniel “Puppet” Blomqvist.
Visual act has not only built the scenery, but also provided stage technology to enable the fluid movements of the scenery in sync with the dancers. The walls and pillars in the city scene move on tracks and are controlled by Visual act Stage Control system. In the Red Light district the curtains in the windows also move as an integral part of the dance.
